Creating a CNAME record for any one of the domain addresses or subdomains that you've got in a hosting account will permit you to direct it to a different domain/subdomain. The forwarded Internet domain will lose all its records - A, MX etc, and will take the records of the domain address it is being directed to. In this light, you can't set up a CNAME record to forward your domain to a third-party provider and keep a working email service with the first hosting company. Also, it is important to note that a CNAME record is always a string of words and never a number as it is frequently wrongly identified as the A record of the Internet domain being forwarded. One of the main uses of a CNAME record is to point a domain which you own through one company to the servers of some other provider assuming you have set up an Internet site with the latter. In this way, the site will appear under your own domain name, not under some subdomain provided by the third-party provider.
CNAME Records in Website Hosting
In case you have a website hosting plan through our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it'll take you only a few mouse clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted in your account through the Hepsia CP offered with each and every plan and adding a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which will be CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the change. If you have never added this kind of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will help you with this task. If you have set up a website through another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different company, for instance Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of mouse clicks in your Control Panel.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will permit you to set up a CNAME record easily. Whether you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to redirect a domain address to a subdomain within the account or to forward a domain name to another provider and use some third-party service that they provide, it will not take you more than 3 clicks to create this kind of record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so once you are there, all that you will have to do will be to select the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then enter the actual record text. For your benefit, you can watch a short video within the CP regarding how to create a CNAME record or you can refer to the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
