Each and every desktop or notebook or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software which communicates with the hardware equipment, including peripheral devices such as a mouse or a printer, along with any applications that are currently installed on the system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a server, each app runs within the parameters established by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etc. This is valid for both standard Internet site scripts and server-side software such as a media server. If a virtual server is created on a physical one, there can be two independent Operating Systems, referred to as guest OS and host OS, which means that you will be able to set up a different software environment on a single machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
Our VPS server solutions feature three Linux distributions that you could select from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being totally free, the OSs are extremely stable and safe and the reason to offer you all three of them is to ensure that you will be able to run each application that you'd like, because different pieces of software have different requirements about the environment they work on. Each of the three OSs is backed by a large community of web developers who have made thousands of software packages that you can set up and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System which you select, you will also be able to choose between 3 different Control Panels to handle your web hosting content. Of course, should you decide that you need a new OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also offer you weekly updates of the Operating System for maximum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
If you decide to get one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the order page because we want to give you a wider choice regarding the system environment on the server as different apps may have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian feature different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and take advantage of a stable and secure web hosting service. Depending on your decision, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you've selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you intend to run. We can also upgrade your OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
